Cave for two

The story goes that while the crew of a small ship were celebrating in a bar their return from a voyage to London where they successfully delivered a shipment of Canary Islands bananas, the manager of the port mentioned that he knew a place in the south La Gomera where there was a mountain spring. Eager to see such a wonder, they set out in a falúa, a type of sail boat, until they reached the beach of Playa de Santiago. At the time, the only inhabitant of the place was a woman who lived in a cave in the side of a cliff. She welcomed them very hospitably and killed a chicken in order to prepare a meal for them.The entire group spent the night in the cave,, inside a circle of stones with a roof made of palm fronds for protection against the dew, a structure that was very typical at the time for keeping animals. The story of the cave is still being written today, and a different chapter is written by each of the couples who are privileged to visit it.
