La Gomera is the ideal place for stargazing. Our magical island, with its clean sky free of light pollution, invites you to stargaze, a unique experience for all to enjoy.
If you are a nature lover, visiting some of La Gomera’s viewpoints at nightfall will allow you to discover stars, planets or constellations with the naked eye. You can observe the beautiful starry sky from every corner of our island, but without a doubt, some of the best places from where to observe the firmament in all its splendour are the Alto de Garajonay, the different viewpoints and some of the beaches along our coast.
- Alto de Garajonay. Being the highest point on the island at 1,487 meters above sea level, it is unsurprisingly considered one of the best locations for stargazing. Surrounded by nature and with almost no light pollution, gazing at the immensity of the universe from here will be a great experience. The best time of the year to see the stars from this point are the summer months, where you will get a full panoramic view of the sky.
- Viewpoints. From La Gomera’s natural viewpoints you will have impressive views of the night sky. In addition, the tranquillity and silence at these viewpoints make the experience unforgettable. This is the case of the Mirador del Santo, in the area of Arure in Valle Gran Rey, an ideal place for night photography. You can also watch the stars from the Mirador de los Roques, in the boundary of the Garajonay National Park. The known image of the Roque Agando’s silhouette under the starry sky stands out here.
- Beaches. If you are one of those who like to watch the stars while listening to the sea in the background, any time of the year is good if you do so from the beaches on our island. Near Hotel Jardín Tecina, the Medio beach in the municipality of San Sebastián is one of the best for this activity.
Ready to discover the sky’s treasures in La Gomera? We look forward to seeing you!
